Get To Know Us

"And into the forest I go,
to lose my mind, and find my soul."

- John Muir -

Welcome in! I'm Amberleigh, the Artist at the heart of Forest and Fae.

My husband is Jason, and we have a son, Forest! He's the inspiration for part of our name.

Jason works full time, and I have the absolute pleasure of learning, growing and adventuring with Forest each day. I craft magical wares for magical beings in my spare time to earn extra coins. Much of my work inspired by the joy and whimsy contained within my memories of my Granny.

She was eclectic and never let her inner child fade away. She was my best friend growing up, even up to the day she passed on. Never once did she let me feel a fool for having a wild imagination, or feel out of place for being different. We were always fairy obsessed! That's the inspiration for the other part of our name.

I'm originally from Lorton, VA, but lived in a few places around Northern VA until moving to Woodstock in 2021. I grew up knowing I was a little.. different, but wasn't diagnosed with a neurodivergent brain until 2020, after having a tiny Forest and the passing of my Granny when I felt at an all time low. It took a minute for the multiple comorbid conditions to settle after being told, but it has been life changing to understand that I'm not just inherently erroneous.

I had crocheted before here and there, but picked it back up in 2021 after moving to Woodstock. I wanted to make items to donate for babies in hospitals, and I found a passion for crochet growing. Crochet became a great asset to my life, because the chaos fueled ADHD goblin that lives in my head can be satisfied by making many different crochet projects, rather than many different medium projects lessening the items I accrue. The repetitive back and forth hand motions are calming to my nervous system and help with my OCD, CPTSD, and generally with anxiety and overstimulation (as I'm so sure other mom's can relate to.) I have now been consistently crocheting ever since September 2021, and Forest has been my biggest supporter. He adores everything I make rather its a trial of a new stitch, a creation that goes wrong or is the best thing I've ever made. Having Forest be so excited about anything I make is likely the biggest reason I decided I would start to sell my crochet. I hope to turn this into something we can both continue to enjoy, learn and earn a little profit from. Forest is already trying to make chains on his own!

I'm not sure that Forest & Fae has found an exact niche that we fit into just yet, and we may never, but I think that's okay. We do hope to eventually start attending local farmers markets, and possibly have a few items in local shops. We're taking it one step at a time for now.

Have a look at our shop. I hope you find something that suits you, and if not please don't hesitate to contact me to discuss a potential custom request!
